Crafting meaningful reflections for my ePortfolio.
Evidence No.5: Inforgraphic; Too Much Information.
Course outcome:
The creation of the infographic presented as evidence of my learning was created as part of a larger group project where we collectively investigated the concept that there is simply too much information and the idea that we can not expect students to be able to sift through all of that information without support.
Focusing our project on Karen Kear’s writings regarding Too Much Information my task was to create an Inforgraphic that summarized various ideas, facts and perspectives and reported the findings of our online survey administered to our cohort.
I chose to present the Infographic as the specific evidence to my learning as I feel it meets the essence of the project. It is a new online tool to me and highlights for me a way that we can limit the flow of information by creating a focus. The quantity of information presented by this Infographic doesn’t reflect a lesser quantity of research, rather, in my opinion, required deeper thought and connection and the medium of communicating the information forces efficiency in presenting materials, ideas and concepts. It agrees with the idea that information can be condensed and presented from various sources in an effective ad engaging way.
Through the completion of this project, I now only became more aware of the overwhelming amount of information that is presented to us in our everyday lives but the work it takes to sift trough it to find pertinent information. for a student it is no longer simply going to the school library to look through the three or four reference books, but a tidal wave of information in which a student can drown.
It is easy for users of the internet to become overwhelmed with the information available to them. Add to this the difficulty a student can experience when asked to complete independent research requiring them to investigate the multitude of resources available in web 2.0, and also the potential barrage of communication from fellow students, the teacher and the online environment.
Completing this project made me not only aware of the overwhelming nature of online resources, but more aware of tools that support learning outcomes and create opportunities for students to focus their ideas and communicate them more efficiently.

Evidence No.6: Final Project: Reflective Practice a Prezi Presentation
Course outcome:
The final assignment was designed to provide an opportunity for us, as students, to sift through course materials and experiences to see how our initial thoughts and philosophies regarding online communication have changed. Looking at what we investigated during the course it seemed appropriate to take a broad approach with this reflective project. This was achieved by comparing and contrasting three distinct interrelated factors relating to online education; E-tools, Best Practices and the Creation of Communities.
Having worked with Kym Toporowski on various other projects, it seemed appropriate to work with heron this final assignment. With such a volume of materials to review, we decided to utilize to presentation application Prezi. The presentation medium itself allowed us a succinct course summary as well as various evidential elements to be embedded into the final piece.
Though the completion of this project I was able to correlate the three different aspects of effective online communication; E-tools, Best Practices and the Creation of Communities. It has become evident to me that these three areas are essential in the effective creation and management of successful online environments that create supportive communities. Through the application of Best Practices a framework is provided that supports not only the online community but also the development of curriculum. With the correct selection and application of online tools student needs cane meet and students can become engaged in their own learning whilst making broader connections with the learner community.
